ISLAMABAD – PakistanFirst.com contacted highly credible sources within Pakistan Army for information on yesterday’s attack on Army’s General Head Quarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. When asked about who could be behind the attack, the Pakistan Army official (speaking on condition of anonymity) informed us that according to Army’s preliminary investigation it was certain that of the footprint of Indian intelligence agency Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) on yesterday’s attack on the GHQ and the hostage situation that followed.

Pakistan Army has within 24 hours of the attack on the GHQ, located the rented house in Rawalpindi that had been used by the terrorists to plan the attack. Security officials confiscated anti-Pakistan propaganda material, fake security forces’ uniforms, explosives and materials that were used to plan the attack.

The 22 hour standoff that followed yesterdays attack was brought to an end this morning as Army’s elite Special Services Group (SSG) commandos, in an operation of high military efficiency, killed four out of the five terrorists while rescuing the 39 hostages. The last terrorist was nabbed alive and could provide vital information into the Indian involvement in terrorism on Pakistan soil. 3 hostages were martyred by the terrorists before the Army could rescue them......

ISLAMABAD : The search and clearance operation to locate and eliminate terrorists holding 42 persons hostage, holed up in security office of General Headquarter, was successfully completed on Sunday. Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Athar Abbas told media-persons that 39 hostages were freed safely in two phased operation launched at dawn. A total of nine terrorists were killed while their leader Aqeel alias Dr Usman was captured in injured condition. Three hostages also embraced Shahadat, while 5 others sustained injuries as result of firing by their captors. Twenty seven hostages were released in first phase and four terrorists were killed by the valiant commandos of the Pakistan Army. While 12 others were rescued in the second phase, also leading to the arrest of terrorists leader, he added. A total of nine personnel, six on Saturday and three on Sunday, including two officers embraced Shahadat during the episode. The Shaheed officers included Brig. Anwar and Lt. Col. Waseem Ahmed. The terrorists were carrying arms and explosive devices, including suicide jackets, grenades, Improvised Explosive Devices, detonators and other explosive material. The early Sunday operation lasted for about 45 minutes resulting in death of four terrorists, with the foremost aim to target those two wearing suicide jackets. Terrorists' leader Aqeel alias Dr. Usman who somehow managed to escape during the first phase of operation was traced and arrested in the second phase from the adjacent offices of the security building. DG ISPR told media that in the second phase terrorist Aqeel was successfully overpowered within few minutes and remaining 12 hostages were also safely rescued from the clutches of the terrorists. Terrorist commander, Aqeel alias Dr. Usman is allegedly the mastermind of terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team. The hostages had been shifted to safer places and were in good health conditions while those injured were accordingly removed to CMH , he added. He said the combing and search of security office of General Headquarters, where the militants made hostage to the security personnel was over. He said that there had been no senior officer among the hostages and the majority of hostages comprised army personnel and civilian servants. Earlier, on Saturday six Army personnel embraced shahadat while five others were injured when the terrorists were challenged by the security staff at the checkpost on the Mall Road near GHQ. The episode unfolded that at about 11.30 a.m, 9 culprits, riding a suzuki van, started firing at the personnel deputed at the barriers and also hurled hand grenades. The injured were rushed to hospital as the security officials tried to secure the safe release of security-men who had been taken hostage by those assailants who survived the counter firing by the security guards. They tried to enter the building while storming a checkpost No.2 near GHQ after initially facing resistance at checkpost No.1 where all the casualties occurred, he said. He said all terrorists were dressed up in camouflage uniform and had been riding a Suzuki van bearing fake army number plate, attacked the checkpost No. 1. Later, they headed towards Checkpost No. 2 where they were again intercepted by security forces.

Indian Nukes Need More Testing, Say Scientists

As if the embarassment over India’s missiles capability wasn’t enough, a senior Indian scientist has admitted for the first time that India’s 1998 Pokhran II nuclear tests were actually far from the success they have been claimed to be. The yield of the thermonuclear explosions was much below expectations and the tests more a ‘fizzle’ rather than a big bang.

It is important to note that India does not have a functional long range missile. The 250 km ‘Prithvi’ is the only fully tested, functional, and ready deployed nuclear-capable missile that India has in its arsenal. With doubtful nuclear capability, India’s missiles might not be more than a set of expensive fireworks.

Pak Flag Hoisted, Tricolour Burnt in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: The green flags of Pakistan were hoisted in various areas of Indian occupied Kashmir on the Independence Day of Pakistan; while the Indian ‘Tri-Colour’ or ‘Tiranga’ was set on fire in many parts of Srinagar on August 15th, which was observed as a ‘black day’ with all business and markets closed in protest to India’s illegal occupation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, people took to streets in various Sri Nagar areas including Habba Kadal, Raj Bagh and Khanqa-e-Mualla and raised slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’, ‘Jeway Jeway Pakistan’ and ‘Hum kia chahtey hein—azaadi’ with Pak flags raised in the air.

Kashmiri youth resorted to fireworks in happiness on the Independence Day of Pakistan.

Meantime, Hurriyat leader Yasmeen Raja was arrested when she attended a ceremony held to celebrate the national day of Pakistan. Raja also hoisted the national flag of Pakistan on her office.

Indian police arrested some other women as well.

Various separatist organisations on Thursday congratulated people of Pakistan on its 62nd independence day and also appealed masses to observe complete shutdown on August 15.

Congratulating people of Pakistan, Hurriyat Conference (M) in a statement said, “We all pray for the peace and stability of Pakistan.”

A priest was killed on Wednesday in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, where Christians have been targeted in violent attacks, according to the Vatican-based news agency Asianews. The body ofJames Mukalel, 39, was found on Thursday morning on a road leading to his parish in the diocese of Belthangady. According to initial investigations, he was killed while returning to his parish after having conducted a funeral in a neighbouring village.

The bishop of the diocese, Lawrence Mukkuzhy, did not put forward any theories as to the motive for the killing, but ruled out a straightforward criminal act. Another diocesan official Tomy Mattom said it looked like an “execution”. He said the body had no obvious wounds and initial information led him to believe the priest had been strangled. An autopsy must be carried out soon to determine the cause of death.

Indian Christian groups have called for an inquiry into the killing and other attacks on Christians in the region, Asianews said. Twenty churches and chapels have been destroyed in the past year in Karnataka. In the eastern state of Orissa last year, thousands of Christians were forced to flee after Hindu mobs burned their houses, churches, orphanages and schools. NEW DELHI, August 3, 2009 (Compass Direct News) –

The suspicious death of a 39-year-old priest in the southern state of Karnataka has further terrified Christians living in an area known for anti-Christian violence, but police indicate that they doubt it is a homicide. The body of the parish priest of St. Mary’s Church, the Rev. James Mukalel, was found lying near his motorbike in Belthangady sub-district near Mangalore early last Thursday (July 30).

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) maintains that Mukalel, from Belthangady’s Syro-Malabar diocese in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district, was killed. Officials at the CBCI said the death of the priest appeared to be suspicious and unnatural, as his body was found nearly naked lying on a remote roadside near the motorbike he had been riding.

Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada district Subramayeshwar Rao told Compass that police had only two theories on the cause of death. “Although I have not seen the autopsy report, I learned from the forensic surgeons that Fr. James Mukalel died of poisoning – most likely naturally because of food poisoning, or he was poisoned.”

Police are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death of James Mukalel (38), parish priest of St Mary's Church, Kutrapady in the diocese of Belthangady. Fr James was found dead in what police said are "suspicious circumstances" on Wednesday. Fr James after attending a funeral was returning around 9.30 pm to St Mary's Church.

SP A S Rao said the post-mortem report would take at least a week. "All our field inquiries have been kept pending until such time and they will take shape once we know the cause of death," Rao said. The police have registered a case of suspicious unnatural death under Section 174 C of Cr.PC.
