Wasim Akram ... Happy Birthday

Birth of one of the greatest left-arm fast bowlers in history. Wasim Akram was at the top for almost 20 years, in which time his famous whippy action brought him a record 916 international wickets for Pakistan. His annus mirabilis came in 1992, when he demolished England with two unforgettable, consecutive deliveries to Allan Lamb and Chris Lewis in the World Cup final at Melbourne, each a definition of unplayable. For good measure, Wasim and Waqar Younis - partners-in-crime but never great friends - then bowled England to defeat in the Test series which followed. Chuck in the film star good looks and Wasim really did have it all. His great career, which also included sterling work for Lancashire, was tainted only by his alleged involvement in the match-fixing scandal.

The king of swing - The man who took reverse swing to a new level

Birth of the Burewala Bombshell. There have been few more scintillating sights in cricket history than Waqar Younis in his pomp. With batsmen hopping and stumps flying, he and Wasim Akram took reverse swing to a new level in the early 1990s with their toe-crushing yorkers. He was at his best in the early 1990s - after bursting onto the scene against New Zealand in 1990-91, Waqar took 109 wickets over a three-year period at an average of 18.07, at the incredible strike rate of 33.55 balls per wicket. He later became captain of Pakistan, and took 7 for 36 - the second-best figures in ODI history - against England at Headingley in 2001. He was also a huge success in county cricket, first for Surrey and then Glamorgan, for whom he took a career-best 8 for 17 against Sussex at Swansea in 1997. He retired in 2004 and is now a television commentator.

Huma Akram buried in Lahore

Huma Akram, the wife of former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram, who died on Sunday due to a multiple-organ failure, was buried in Lahore on Monday. Her funeral was attended by hundreds of people, including Wasim's former team-mates Saeed Anwar, Ijaz Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed and Moin Khan. Anwar led the funeral prayers.

"Huma's loss is great and I request my fans to pray for me so that I am able to raise my kids," said Wasim, who has two sons, Akbar and Taimur.

Huma was admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai, India, last Tuesday after her condition deteriorated on board an air ambulance flying from Lahore to Singapore, where she was due to be treated at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital. She developed heart and kidney complications and died on Sunday morning.

Huma worked in Pakistan as a psychologist and a hypnotherapist. She also worked with the Pakistan team for a while as a psychological counselor.

it makes us sad that our Bhabi has passed away, we pray for her soul. After Imran Khan, wasim bhai too has had a broken marriage life, We pray that he becomes a strong support of Imran bhai in his mission of freeing the Pakistanis from the corrupt system. We hope that Wasim bhai survives through this tough time and wish him and the kids all the best.

The cricket world received its first introduction to the deadliest old-ball partnership of them all. Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram shared 10 wickets in a Test for the first time, taking 15 in all as Pakistan thrashed New Zealand by an innings and 43 runs in Karachi - and 11 of the 15 were out lbw or bowled. It started a run in which Wasim and Waqar took 10 or more wickets between them in 18 of the 24 Tests that they played in together between 1990 and 199

"Matches against India have always been the most memorable ones for me, especially our victory at Chennai in 1999 where more than 40,000 spectators gave us a standing ovation. Victory at Melbourne in the 1992 World Cup in front of 88,000 spectators and the reception we received upon our return is something I'll cherish for the rest of my life.

"I am delighted and honoured to have represented my country for 18 years. I thank all my mentors, family members, fans and team-mates for helping me to join the galaxy of real superstars in this ICC Cricket Hall of Fame."
