Happy Birthday Captain !!!

1952
Few would dispute that Imran Khan, who was born today, was the finest cricketer Pakistan has produced, or the biggest heartthrob. Thousands, if not millions, who had never dreamt of bowling fast on heartless baked mud suddenly wanted to emulate Imran and his lithe bounding run, his leap and his reverse-swinging yorker. His averages (37.69 with the bat, 22.81 with the ball) put him at the top of the quartet of allrounders (Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee and Kapil Dev being the others) who dominated Test cricket in the 1980s: in his last 10 years of international cricket he played 51 Tests, averaging a sensational 50 with the bat and 19 with the ball. His one-day exploits also drew envy, over 3700 runs at 33.41 and 182 wickets at 22.61. He captained Pakistan as well as anyone, rounding off his career with the 1992 World Cup. He played hardly any domestic cricket in Pakistan: instead he just flew in for home series from Worcestershire or Sussex, or rather from the more fashionable London salons. After retirement, he embarked on a career in politics.

Thirty-four prominent politicians benefited from the NRO, Sindhu said.

Some of the names include: Altaf Hussain, Asif Ali Zardari, Rehman Malik, Hussain Haqqani, Babar Ghauri, Dr Farooq Sattar, Saleem Shahzad, Nusrat Bhutto, Nawaz Khokar, Anwar Saifullah, Jahangir Badar, Mian Mohammad Rasheed, Tariq Rasheed, Ahmed Mukhtar, Tariq Mahmood, Sardar Maqsood Laghari, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Ghaniur Rehman, Mir Baz Khan Khaitran, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, A. The list of beneficiaries presented Saturday showed 72 cases against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain.

Earlier on Saturday, Afzal Sindhu formally presented the list of NRO beneficiaries to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and the PM directed the minister to present the list to reporters.

PM directed the minister to present the list to the media in order to remove ambiguity and speculation. — DawnNews/APP

Happy Birthday - Waqar Younus

The king of swing - The man who took reverse swing to a new level

1971
Birth of the Burewala Bombshell. There have been few more scintillating sights in cricket history than Waqar Younis in his pomp. With batsmen hopping and stumps flying, he and Wasim Akram took reverse swing to a new level in the early 1990s with their toe-crushing yorkers. He was at his best in the early 1990s - after bursting onto the scene against New Zealand in 1990-91, Waqar took 109 wickets over a three-year period at an average of 18.07, at the incredible strike rate of 33.55 balls per wicket. He later became captain of Pakistan, and took 7 for 36 - the second-best figures in ODI history - against England at Headingley in 2001. He was also a huge success in county cricket, first for Surrey and then Glamorgan, for whom he took a career-best 8 for 17 against Sussex at Swansea in 1997. He retired in 2004 and is now a television commentator.
